[Dongyang Ilbo Reporter Eom Jae-cheon] CBFEZ (Director General Jeon Hyung-sik) is doing its utmost to attract domestic and foreign investments, including foreign-invested companies this year, despite the uncertain global economic outlook due to the aftermath of COVID-19.

With the aim of signing MOUs worth KRW 120 billion this year, CBFEZ is intensely attracting foreign-invested companies in Osong Biopolis District for the remaining 40,7434m2 of land exclusively for foreign investment. In addition, CBFEZ will discover and attract domestic and foreign companies in the aviation and logistics industry to secure additional occupancy demands while following up to ensure actual investments for 19 investment agreements made in the Cheongju Aeropolis District. To this end, CBFEZ is planning customized IR activities such as investment promotion briefings for companies in Europe and North America (three times) in liaison with relevant organizations, capital attraction investment briefings for companies in Asia (in September), and participation in overseas international aerospace exhibitions (in November).

In addition, CBFEZ is planning to participate in domestic exhibitions and fairs to discover potential investment companies.

If the spread of COVID-19 continues, CBFEZ plans to switch to non-contact activities. CBFEZ plans to secure investment attraction competitiveness and strengthen its network by operating a public relations ambassador to attract investments from key promising companies, operating a policy advisory group for the aviation industry to successfully promote Cheongju Aeropolis, and conducting fam tours for the investment environment for potential investors.

As a result of concentrating on attracting investments despite the poor investment environment caused by COVID-19 last year, four companies signed investment agreements (MOU) worth KRW 139.8 billion.

CBFEZ has attracted 91 companies (79 domestic and 12 foreign companies) for a total area of 1,263,443 m2 (1,108,1324 m2 for Korean companies, 15,5119 m2 for foreign companies) until 2020 after its opening, and the total investment amount reached KRW 1.9226 trillion (KRW 1.4767 billion from Korean companies and KRW 4,459 billion from foreign companies). The total number of employees exceeded 6,781 (5,964 for Korean companies and 817 for foreign companies).

Osong Biopolis District achieved 95.7% in selling space in lots by attracting promising high-tech companies in the BT and IT sectors. For the industrial site in Cheongju Aeropolis District 3, which is scheduled to be developed, letters of intent to move in have been received from 27 companies, including aviation-related companies, and 100% demand for industrial sites has been secured, thereby establishing a base for the aviation industry.

An official from CBFEZ said, “We will take the lead in realizing 4% of Chungbuk’s economic growth by continuously attracting domestic and foreign investments despite the uncertain economic outlook due to COVID-19.”
