내용 Chungcheongbuk-do to Expand the Use of COVID-19 Self-Test Kits
- Pilot project for 42,500 people in welfare facilities and infection-prone areas
Chungcheongbuk-do expands the number of people eligible for the Chungcheongbuk-do COVID-19 Self-Test Kit Pilot Project from 10,000 to 42,500 in an effort to stop the spread of infections through early detection of confirmed COVID-19 patients.

This project will begin with kits for 32,500 people* donated by Humasis, Korean Red Cross Chungcheongbuk-do, and Community Chest of Korea Chungcheongbuk-do on May 18 (today), and 10,000 donated by SD Biosensor on May 4.
* Humasis: 10,000 people / Korean Red Cross Chungcheongbuk-do: 15,000 people / Community Chest of Korea Chungcheongbuk-do: 7,500 people

Three densely populated facilities such as 1) call centers, public transport, and bathhouses, 2) foreigner-concentrated areas, sport clubs in universities and workplaces, productive labor service volunteer centers, and 3) police substations and fire safety centers are eligible for the project.

In addition, considering that self-test kits are needed to minimize patients through preemptive tests in public institutions and workplaces until herd immunity is achieved through vaccination, Chungcheongbuk-do is implementing stronger disease control measures by requiring self-tests by participants when important events are hosted.

Self-test kits will be made available for on-site workers such as road repairmen and kits may also be used for other purposes.

Chungcheongbuk-do formally proposed the usage of self-tests at the end of last year to expand the use of self-test kits, which can detect the presence of COVID-19 virus within 15 to 30 minutes like existing rapid antigen tests, and can easily be conducted by individuals.

Only two places in the country, namely Chungcheongbuk-do and Seoul, decided to preemptively introduce self-tests since they were approved conditionally back on April 23.

Chungcheongbuk-do started the use of rapid antigen tests to neglected areas, vulnerable groups and facilities since December last year and quickly found 76 patients confirmed with COVID-19.

Chungcheongbuk-do also believes that self-test kits would be as successful in early detection of infected patients as rapid antigen tests and will actively utilize them as a supplementary means for PCR tests.

An official from Chungcheongbuk-do said, “We thank institutions and organizations who have shown us their interest in preventing the spread of COVID-19. We would like to see continued participation from our residents by expanding different types of tests such as PCR tests, rapid antigen tests, and self-tests, maintaining social distancing, and personal hygiene along with vaccination to return to normal.”
