On Mon, Apr. 25 at 11 AM, the Chungbuk Free Economic Zone Office (CBFEZO) (Head, Maeng Gyeong-jae) held a commemorative ceremony to mark the 9th anniversary of its establishment at Osong C&V Center

The ceremony was attended by private and public representatives including Lee Si-jong, the governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, Park Mun-hee, the chairperson of the Chungcheongbuk-do Council, members of the provincial assembly, the head of residents’ self-government and the chairperson of the village head council of Osong-eup.

The event was proceeded in the order of a progress briefing presented by the CBFEZO, a presentation on future vision, and commemorative rice cake cutting ceremony.

The designation of the free economic zone took place on February 14, 2013, and the CBFEZO was founded on April 26 of the same year. It is currently led by Maeng Gyeong-jae, who was appointed in January 2022, following first director Jeon Sang-heon, and second director, Jeon Hyeong-sik.

The construction and lotting-out of Biopolis District and Aeropolis District 1 have been completed. Public agencies including the Korea Electrical Contractors Association, the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering & Technology, and 119 Aviation Maintenance Room of the Fire Department as well as promising overseas bio companies such as Prestige Biologics have been successfully attracted.

For the second leap forward, the CBFEZO plans to change the existing paradigm of development focused on the free economic zone, and transform the free economic zone into a global business hub and a new center of the capital area economy.

In particular, Osong is becoming a city, led by the construction of Osong Bio Valley, High-Tech Medical Complex, Biopolis, Cosmetics Industry Complex, Bio Industry Complex, station district and convention center.

The CBFEZO plans to develop the city into an international city with a population of 250,000 similar to the Third National Industry Complex, Cheongju (Gangnae) High-Tech Valley, and Sejong Jochiwon.

Governor Lee said, “I would like to acknowledge the hard work taken on by the office staff below the director level in order to solve the housing issue for migrants in Aeropolis District 2, by focusing administrative resources and continuously talking to, and persuading migrant workers. I would like to ask you to create the one-and-only international city of the middle region by proactively seeking ways to improve settlement conditions for foreigners with the vision that creating a free economic zone is equivalent to creating a new city, rather than just an industrial complex.”
