Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do Visits ‘Comic World 321’, the First Event at Cheongju OSCO
Attending the First Event at Cheongju OSCO, Chungcheongbuk-do’s First Exhibition and Convention Center -
On the 7th, Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan visited ‘Comic World 321 Cheongju’, the first event held at Cheongju OSCO―the province’s first and the largest exhibition and convention center in the central region of South Korea.
Celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, Comic World is the nation’s largest comic event where various creators, including amateur comic artists, gather to showcase their works and interact with visitors. The event also provides the youth with a stage for their dreams.
Held for two days on the 7th and 8th, Comic World features various events such as exhibits of portfolio exchange among school comic clubs, an outstanding comic club contest, cosplay stage performances, and a stationery fair.
According to the organizers of Comic World 321 Cheongju, more than 7,000 participants and visitors entered the venue on the morning of the first day, creating a huge crowd. More than 15,000 visitors from across the country are expected by tomorrow, indicating a highly successful event.
In particular, Cheongju OSCO has already secured 81 events for the second half of the year, including exhibitions and conferences. Even before its official opening, its operation rate has exceeded 39%, and the economic ripple effect of its opening is estimated at KRW 80.4 billion per year.
Cheongju OSCO, the first exhibition and convention center in Chungbuk, was built with an investment of KRW 231.8 billion by Chungcheongbuk-do and the city of Cheongju. It has a total floor area of 39,725㎡ with one basement level and two above-ground floors in Mansu-ri, Osong-eup. It will undergo trial operations from this month until August before its official opening in September.
Governor Kim Young-hwan stated, “I hope Cheongju OSCO will become a global exhibition and convention center that people across the country want to visit, serving as the hub of the MICE industry in the central region.” He added, “It will become a landmark of Chungcheongbuk-do that connects our province’s culture and arts with new growth industries.

Chungcheongbuk-do Opens the 2025 Media Facade Exhibition Event
‘On That Night, Light Dances’: A Variety of Cultural Performances Alongside Award-Winning Works from the Contest
On June 4 (Wednesday), Chungcheongbuk-do announced that it held the opening ceremony for the “2025 Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government Media Facade Exhibition” at the outdoor stage in front of the provincial government’s main building. This marked the start of a five-day grand media art festival.
This exhibition projects cutting-edge digital media art onto the exterior walls of the Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government’s main building, which is a nationally registered cultural heritage site, under the theme “On That Night, Light Dances”. Under the sub-theme “Breath, Rest, Spring, Life,” a total of 15 video works―seven from the general division and eight from the student division―selected through a nationwide contest, along with a children’s film, will be screened every night at 8 PM from June 4 (Wednesday) to June 8 (Sunday).
At the opening ceremony, over 200 attendees, including Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan, Provincial Assembly Chairman Lee Yang-seop, and Ko Chang-seop, Chair of the Chungbuk Regional Council of University Presidents, gathered alongside contest winners, youth brand participants, and residents. An award ceremony for the contest and a celebratory performance by the Chungbuk Provincial Symphony Orchestra were held as part of the event.
This year’s event also features various cultural programs alongside the Media Facade exhibition. The featured programs include the children’s film “Tayo the Little Bus and the Fire Rescue Team”, the children’s musical “Alice and the Card Soldiers’ Music Journey”, a performance by the Chungju Municipal Ureuk Korean Traditional Music Orchestra, EDM, and a collaboration stage combining B-boy dance and Taekkyeon, offering entertainment for all ages.
In addition, a flea market, photo zones, and interactive floor art installations have been set up at the venue, making the Media Facade Exhibition even more vibrant and engaging.
In particular, this event is expected to serve as a significant opportunity to brand the Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government as a “Garden of Light” by linking it with other cultural programs in the old downtown area, such as the “Cheongju National Heritage Night Tour,” the “Provincial Government Industrial Promotion Hall Special Exhibition,” and “Dangsan Bunker.”
Jeong Sun-mi, Policy Planning Director of Chungcheongbuk-do, stated, “Compared to last year’s event, which focused on university students, this year’s nationwide contest has raised the level and diversity of the works presented.” She added, “We have prepared a variety of content so that everyone―from children to seniors―can enjoy this festival together. We look forward to welcoming many residents and visitors.”
