25th Chungcheongbuk-do Citizen Awards Ceremony Held
- Province’s highest honor bestowed on five recipients across four categories -
The 25th Chungcheongbuk-do Citizen Awards Ceremony was held on Wednesday, December 17,in the main conference hall of the provincial government building, with more than 100 people in attendance, including Governor Kim Young-hwan, the five award recipients, their families and friends, members of the awards committee, and past honorees.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: report on the award selection process, presentation of awards by category, congratulatory remarks by the governor, and acceptance speeches by the recipients.
The recipients of the 25th Chungcheongbuk-do Citizen Awards are as follows:
Community Development: Lim Dae-kyeong, President of the Chungcheongbuk-do Federation of the Korean Association of Agricultural Technicians, and Hong Sang-pyo, Chair of the Pulkkum Environmental Foundation (co-recipients)
Culture and Sports: Kang Dae-sik, President of the Chungbuk Literary Association
Industry and Economy: Lee Jae-jin, President of the Chungbuk Economic Forum and CEO of ATS Co., Ltd.
Public Service and Volunteerism: Han Hyo-dong, Chief of the Cheongju Civil Defense Emergency Support Unit
These five individuals were recognized for their dedication to the development and social cohesion of Chungcheongbuk-do, representing the pride and spirit of the province.
Governor Kim Young-hwan stated, “Countless stars of excellence are shining over Chungbuk, which stands at the heart of Korea,” adding, “Behind these remarkable achievements are today’s honorees, each of whom has devoted themselves to their respective fields for the well-being of our residents.”
He continued, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the five honorees of this year’s awards. Moving forward, I will lead the provincial administration with creativity, boldness, and swift execution, together with such outstanding members of our community.”

Governor Kim Young-hwan Attends the 2025 Salvation Army Charity Kettle Launch Ceremony
- Hopeful ringing of bells continues a 97-year tradition -
On Saturday, the 6th, Chungcheongbuk-do announced that Governor Kim Young-hwan attended the 2025 Salvation Army Charity Kettle Launch Ceremony, hosted by the Salvation Army Chungbuk Provincial Headquarters (led by Provincial Director Kim Tae-yeol), where he rang the bell and donated to support neighbors in need.
The event, held at the plaza in front of the CGV cinema on Seongan-gil in Cheongju, featured a performance by the Salvation Army Brass Band, followed by the official bell-ringing ceremony. Over 100 participants, including Governor Kim, local government and institutional leaders, and volunteers, attended the event.
Under the theme “Light of Hope,” the 2025 Charity Kettle street fundraising campaign will continue through December 24 at locations across the province, including Yukgeori Market and Seongan-gil, following the launch event. The national fundraising period runs from December 1 through December 31.
Governor Kim stated, “The Salvation Army’s bell and red kettle are more than symbols of the year-end season—they represent a powerful movement of sharing love with our neighbors.” He added, “I encourage the warm participation of Chungbuk residents so the sound of hope can resonate throughout the province.”
The Salvation Army’s Charity Kettle street campaign is one of the most widely-recognized year-end donation efforts in Korea, having begun in Myeong-dong in 1928 and continuing its tradition of bell-ringing for 97 years.
