GREETINGS
Message from Governor.

The sea of Chungbuk is the sea of dreams.

There is no sea in Chungbuk, but there is a lake.

There is no port, but there is Baekdu-daegan.

There are no ships, but there are ten thousand paths to the world on foot.

Thank You. Young Hwan Kim

During the ceremony, they received the event flag and officially presented Chungcheong-do’s determination to host the next Universiade to the world. The closing ceremony marked the conclusion of the 12-day competition (July 16?27), with numerous delegations, organizing committee members, and media representatives from various countries in attendance. Following the official program and cultural performances, a presentation introducing the next host region, Chungcheong-do, was held. Kang Chang-hee, Chair of the Universiade Organizing Committee, delivered an official speech, sharing the meaning of the Universiade and the vision for the 2027 Games, offering a warm first greeting to the world. A promotional video showcased the image of Chungcheong-do as a region where tradition and future coexist, along with the preparations for the Games. The final cultural performance combined pansori, electronic music, and a live show, captivating the global audience with a stage that harmonized tradition and modernity. Governor Kim Young-hwan of Chungcheongbuk-do stated, “Attending this closing ceremony marks a symbolic starting point to showcase Chungcheong-do’s capabilities to the world,” adding, “Chungcheongbuk-do will work hand in hand with other provinces to ensure that the 2027 Universiade becomes a stage for global youth exchange and growth.” The 2027 Chungcheong Summer Universiade will be an international multi-sport event jointly hosted by the four Chungcheong provinces. It is expected to serve as a model for shared responsibilities, mutual economic benefits, balanced development, and cooperative growth. Governor Kim Young-hwan of Chungcheongbuk-do Conducts Emergency On-Site Inspection of Landslide-Prone Areas
Ensuring Residents’ Safety as the Top Priority… Full Activation of the Landslide Response System In response to the increased risk of landslides due to recent heavy rainfall, Governor Kim Young-hwan of Chungcheongbuk-do visited landslide-prone areas, including Sangbong-ri in Osong-eup, Cheongju City, on July 20 to conduct an on-site inspection. The inspection was arranged due to concerns that prolonged rainfall had weakened the ground, raising the risk of large-scale landslides if additional rain were to occur. The visit included a comprehensive review of landslide-prone areas, nearby evacuation shelters, and the overall prevention and response system. On-site, Governor Kim closely examined the risk of slope collapse, drainage conditions, and proximity to residential areas, and ordered immediate corrective measures for identified risk factors. Since late February, Chungcheongbuk-do has established a cooperative system with cities and counties and completed pre-inspections of 2,246 landslide-prone sites across the province in preparation for the heavy summer rains. Currently, the province operates a “Landslide Countermeasure Situation Room” with participation from 13 organizations, including the provincial government, 11 cities and counties, and the Forest Environment Research Institute. When weather alerts are issued, the system shifts to a 24-hour emergency operations mode. Governor Kim emphasized, “The lives and safety of our residents are the top priority,” and urged, “When a landslide watch or warning is issued, prompt pre-evacuation is the most effective way to minimize damage, so I ask for the active cooperation of all residents.” Meanwhile, since July 17, Chungcheongbuk-do has issued a “Severe” level landslide crisis alert and has been making all-out efforts for a proactive response through the Landslide Countermeasure Situation Room by monitoring high-risk areas in real time, issuing warnings and alerts, and sharing damage reports.
