- “Design the Future of Chungbuk!” seeking creative public design ideas -
Chungcheongbuk-do will host the 15th Chungcheongbuk-do Public Design Competition to discover creative public design ideas through resident participation and apply them to the region’s spaces, environment, and tourism resources. The theme of this year’s competition is “Design the Future of Chungbuk! RE-DESIGN CHUNGBUK.” It embodies the concepts of “RE-THINK,” which reexamines the value of Chungbuk; “RE-LINK,” which reconnects spaces and people; and “RE-BORN,” which envisions a renewed future. The competition covers locations throughout Chungcheongbuk-do and is divided into three categories: Public Spaces, Public Buildings, and Visual Design. The province plans to focus on discovering design ideas that reflect the region’s identity and future vision. In particular, it looks forward to highly practical proposals, such as sustainable urban space planning incorporating eco-friendly and landscape elements, public buildings integrated with smart technologies, and themed tourism maps and tourism pictograms to promote local tourism. Submissions will be accepted from August 18 to August 28, 2026. Approximately 23 entries will be selected for awards, with a total prize fund of KRW 13.5 million. To assist participants, Chungcheongbuk-do will provide various reference materials on potential project sites, including unused closed schools, vacant houses, idle provincial properties, and major tourist attractions. Kim Jong-gi, Director General of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Chungcheongbuk-do, stated, “As regional depopulation and the climate crisis intensify, the need to upcycle underutilized and aging spaces continues to grow. This competition provides an excellent opportunity to propose innovative ways to utilize Chungbuk’s spaces, environment, and local resources.” He added, “We encourage residents to take an active interest and participate in the competition actively so that public design can further enhance the value of our region.” |
