Cheongju Aeropolis District II Construction Completed
- The district, located near Cheongju Airport, is expected to become a hub for the aviation industry in central Korea - The Chungbuk Free Economic Zone Authority announced that the Cheongju Aeropolis District II project, conducted jointly with the Cheongju government, was completed on June 30, 2025. Cheongju Aeropolis District II was designated as the Chungbuk Free Economic Zone (CBFEZ) in 2013 to promote the integration of aviation maintenance (MRO) industries and foster core strategic industries in the economic free zone based on its excellent accessibility to Cheongju Airport. The project site is located in Ipdong and Sinan-ri, Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju City, and covers an area of 407,604㎡ (approximately 123,000 pyeong) with a total investment of approximately 98.6 billion won. Construction began in February 2019 and was completed in June 2025. The main industries to be attracted include aircraft maintenance (MRO), parts manufacturing, and logistics. Cheongju Aeropolis District II offers excellent transportation accessibility along with other locational advantages. It is connected to the Gyeongbu Expressway, Jungbu Expressway, National Roads (Nos. 17 and 36), Local Roads (Nos. 511 and 540), as well as the Chungcheong Train Express (CTX), which is currently undergoing expansion. Furthermore, once the construction of a new civilian runway at Cheongju International Airport is finished, the area will likely become a hub for the aviation industry cluster. With the economic recovery and increased demand for aviation maintenance (MRO) and logistics, the sales of the district are expected to gradually increase. Chungbuk Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner Choi Bok-soo said, “The Cheongju Aeropolis District is expected to attract attention as a promising investment destination with its excellent location and infrastructure, along with the growth of the aviation industry in the future.” He also said that he will do his best to attract promising companies that will contribute to the revitalization of Cheongju Airport and the local economy following the completion of the complex. |
