Governor Kim Young-hwan of Chungcheongbuk-do emphasized the need for thorough preparation for the two major international expos.

The 2025 Yeongdong World Gugak Expo, The 2025 Jecheon International Oriental Medicine & Natural Products Expo

On Wednesday the 20th, Governor Kim held a review meeting at the provincial office courtyard to inspect the progress of the two expos and closely examined the visitor recruitment status across regions, businesses, and alumni associations.

During the meeting, he instructed the development of various strategies to attract domestic and international visitors, including creating travel packages in collaboration with travel agencies and leveraging U.S. military bases in Pyeongtaek to attract foreign tourists.

He also emphasized the need to develop hands-on experience programs for visitors and, above all, to prioritize their convenience and safety.

Governor Kim announced he would personally oversee on-site operations for one week starting September 12 during the Yeongdong World Gugak Expo, and also visit and inspect the Jecheon International Oriental Medicine & Natural Products Expo for one week starting September 20.

Governor Kim stated, “With less than a month remaining until these large-scale international events, now is the time to concentrate all administrative resources on their success.” He added, “These expos are crucial events that represent Chungbuk’s reputation and honor, and it is a historical duty for the province and its people to lead their success execution together.”

He also warned, “If the national investigation into the Gungpyeong 2 underpass disaster prevents focus on these international events, it could lower public officials’ morale, diminish provincial pride, and harm the local economy.” He suggested, “If an investigation is necessary, its schedule should be adjusted to after the expos, or it should be replaced with a regular parliamentary audit.”

The 2025 Yeongdong World Gugak Expo will be held from September 12 to October 11 under the theme “The Scent of Gugak Colors the World” in Yeongdong-gun’s Rainbow Healing Tourist Site and the Korean Classical Music Experience Village.

As an international event with participation from 30 countries, the expo will feature theme and exhibition halls, performances of traditional Korean music (gugak) and world music, and various interactive experience programs.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Jecheon International Oriental Medicine & Natural Products Expo will take place from September 20 to October 19 at the Jecheon Oriental Medicine Expo Park under the theme “A World with Natural Products, Meeting a Better Future.” The event will offer exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and international academic forums showcasing the present and future of the natural products industry, providing rich experiences for visitors from Korea and abroad.
