- Temporary suspension of visitor logs, one hour extension on curfew, etc. -

Chungcheongbuk-do announced that social distancing measures for “phased return to normalcy” will be extended for three weeks from Feb. 19 (Sat) to Mar. 13 (Sun), 2022 with partially eased measures, including a one hour extension on curfew for certain facilities and temporary suspension of visitor logs.

With the number of new confirmed cases continuing to exceed 50,000 cases a day since Feb. 10 and exceeding 100,000 cases for the first time on Feb. 17 due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, experts expect up to 180,000 confirmed cases a day by the end of February.

Chungcheongbuk-do has also broken the record of 2,554 new confirmed cases a day on Feb. 17.

In response, the government announced to ease and adjust some of the current social distancing measures staring from Feb. 19, 2022, in consideration of the economic difficulties that people are facing at the moment, even in times where strict measures are needed because of the Omicron variant reaching its peak.

First, operating hours of entertainment facilities, restaurants, cafes, karaoke rooms, baths/saunas and indoor sports facilities will be extended by one hour, and all facilities are allowed to operate until 10 PM.

Second, visitor logs that track close contacts, such as call logs and handwritten logs, will be temporarily suspended, while visitor logs through QR codes will be maintained to check vaccination status at facilities that require vaccination.
Category Current Measures Changed Measures
Entry logs
(All facilities) ㅇ Electronic visitor logs (QR), simple check-ins (via call), handwritten visitor logs ㅇ Temporarily suspended
Proof of vaccination & negative COVID-19 test
(Facilities that require vaccination) ㅇ Electronic proof (QR, Coov), via paper or vaccination sticker ㅇ No changes

Third, remaining measures in regards to private gatherings, public events, meetings, proof of vaccination and negative tests remain the same.

Other matters related to social distancing measures of Chungcheongbuk-do, such as visitor logs when entering supermarkets, stores and marts*, will be temporarily suspended according to government policies.

An official from Chungcheongbuk-do office said, “We inevitably maintained measures due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, but eased some parts in consideration of the economic difficulties faced by people, and will be implemented for three weeks. As the government thinks that more time is needed to lift the social distancing measures for the return to normalcy, we sincerely ask for the citizens’ understanding and cooperation on preventive measures, such as booster shots and compliance with the social distancing measures, in order to stabilize the pandemic quickly.”
