- The governor ordered a thorough review of various projects and events that had been put on hold in order to revitalize the economy -
- Preparing for the easing of social distancing guidelines and new strains is also important - Lee Si-jong, governor of Chungcheongbuk-do, attended an extended executive council meeting conducted online on the 18th and requested the preparation of a plan to restore the administrative and economic status of the province to pre-pandemic levels. He also requested a preventive plan to respond to a potential increase in the number of patients following the easing of social distancing guidelines. Governor Lee said, “From today (18th), most of the government’s social distancing guidelines will be lifted apart from the mandatory face mask wearing. Beginning the 25th, COVID-19 will be downgraded to a second-degree infectious disease from a first-degree one. The anti-virus guidelines associated with COVID-19 will be largely removed from late May, including the quarantine requirement for COVID-19 patients. In line with this, conduct a thorough review of various projects and events that have been put on hold due to the pandemic, and prepare a plan to restore the economy to pre-COVID levels.” In particular, he requested his staff to “review a supplementary budget for the process of recovery to pre-pandemic levels.” He also ordered the preparation of "a preventive measure to respond to an increased number of patients caused by the easing of the social distancing guidelines and potential emergence of new COVID-19 strains.” In relation to the upcoming local election on June 1, Governor Lee emphasized the need to prevent a scandalous event such as the mistreatment of ballot boxes for COVID-19 patients that occurred during the presidential election, to identify potential issues in advance, and to work with the National Election Commission to ensure a smooth election process. "We must also work on securing ballot workers,” he added. Meanwhile, Governor Lee feels that the projects carried out by the Department of Women’s Policy were biased toward gender equality and issues experienced only by a small group of women. "Now, change your mindset and think that you are in charge of looking after 800,000 women living in Chungcheongbuk-do, who account for half of the population, and broaden your work scope. I believe this will help you find new areas of work to include in your work plan,” he explained. Lastly, he noted that they will soon go through an evaluation process such as a field inspection for the final selection of the host for the 2027 Summer World University Games. The four cities and districts of Chungcheong Province must cooperate and hold strategy meetings to prepare for the field inspection, and make utmost efforts together to be successful in the selection process, he stressed. |
