Governor Young-hwan Kim Makes Moves Including Talks with Minister of Science and ICT

Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan has made a variety of moves to address some of the current issues of Chungcheongbuk-do by having talks with the Vice Minister for Science and ICT on Thu, Jul. 28 and with the Minister for Science and ICT on Mon, Aug. 8.

Governor Kim called for full support for major projects as they will serve as stepping stones for growth in the upcoming 100 years by establishing the KAIST Biomedical Campus Town in Osong, a high school for AI talented students, and a synchrotron radiation accelerator as well as cutting-edge R&D infrastructure, while ensuring disaster safety management based on AI and the metaverse in Chungcheongbuk-do.

Asking for full support and cooperation, Governor Kim said, “It is essential to create the KAIST Biomedical Campus Town in Osong, which is a medical science education facility, to develop Chungcheongbuk-do which is already driving the development of bio industry in Korea, and a high school for AI talented students in affiliation with KAIST to nurture talents in line with the major policies of the central government to foster the semiconductor industry.”

In addition, Governor Kim highlighted the need for great attention and support from the Ministry of Science and ICT to build the Ochang Accelerator Laboratory in time for completion by 2027 as well as relevant key facilities and to ensure disaster safety management based on AI and the metaverse in Chungcheongbuk-do.

Minister for Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho said, “As Chungcheongbuk-do is at the center of biotech, semiconductor and rechargeable battery industry, driving the future of cutting-edge technology industry in Korea, MSIT will review the projects in a positive manner.”
