In response to a request by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to increase the proportion of aviation-related companies, Chungbuk-do will make an application next month after supplementing its plan.
Chungbuk-do is applying again to have Cheongju Aeropolis District 3 re-designated as an industrial complex. The province has increased the percentage of aviation-related tenant companies as requested by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. On the 14th , Chungbuk-do and CBFEZ announced that the province will supplement its plan to create the Aeropolis District 3 Industrial Complex. District 3 was not approved for designation at the Industrial Complex Designation Plan Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Nov. last year for the reason that logistics companies made up a greater proportion of companies wishing to move in. This means that there should be many aviation-related companies since it was developed as an aviation industrial complex. The designation was rejected even though all requirements were met. For approval of an industrial complex designation plan, more than half of the total area of the land incorporated must be purchased or consents to use the land must be obtained. The demand secured for occupancy must be at least 100%. As of the end of last Dec., 57% consent to the use the land had been obtained, and letters of intent to move in were received from 32 companies. Of these companies, 17 were aviation-related companies, and the rest were bio and information and communication industry companies. There were no logistics companies. Chungbuk-do and CBFEZ decided to apply again with these details in its plan. An official from CBFEZ said, “As requested by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, we have supplemented our plan for designation, such as increasing the proportion of aviation-related companies in District 3, and the application for designation is expected to be made next month when an official letter is received.” Cheongju Aeropolis District 3 will be developed as an aviation high-tech and logistics industrial complex. It will be created on 1,288,718 m2 of land in Naedun, Hwasang, and Hwaha-ri, Buki-myeon, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si. The project period is from 2022 to 2024. Initially, it was intended to be designated as a free economic zone, but the plan was changed because the preliminary designation was canceled. Therefore, Chungbuk-do and CBFEZ decided to have it designated as an industrial complex and then have it designated as a free economic zone later. Considering that the development project could be delayed if efforts were only made to have it designated as a free economic zone, the province and CBFEZ decided to create the industrial complex in parallel. Chungbuk-do and CBFEZ are planning to make an application for designation as a free economic zone while promoting the development project with approval of the industrial complex designation plan during the first half of this year. Chungbuk-do plans to create Cheongju Aeropolis District 3 as an “aviation industry innovation growth cluster'' by linking it with Cheongju Aeropolis Districts 1 and 2 designated as a free economic zone.
