<Chungbuk-do Promotes Drone and Urban Air Transportation Industry>
Chungbuk-do has opened a research center in Cheongju University, along with a drone flight test center Chungbuk-do took its first step to gain an advantageous position in the urban air transportation (UAM) and drone industry. CBFEZ announced that on the 24th, a signboard hanging ceremony for the Drone/UAM Research Center was held at the College of Art, Cheongju University, to foster future industries. UAM, mobile transportation combining vertical take-off and landing technology and AI-based autonomous flight technology, is regarded as a convergence industry of core technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. CBFEZ presented a blueprint for the UAM industry ecosystem in Aeropolis District 3 near Cheongju Airport. The research center was established last year through a consortium between Cheongju University, Korea National University of Transportation University, and companies (Sungwoo Engineering and Shinil Information Technology) as part of the Chungbuk New Deal project. The government is also aiming to commercialize UAM services by 2025. As a first-stage project, CBFEZ is promoting an air shuttle project that is intended to connect the city base and the airport. A UAM prototype production room, indoor drone and UAM flight test center, UAM simulator room, and industry-academia joint project room will be installed in the research center this year. If this project is successfully carried out, it is expected that CBFEZ would promote the establishment of a UAM ecosystem, preoccupy future industries, and carry out large-scale government projects through the accumulation of UAM capabilities. In addition, CBFEZ will gain the synergy of building a platform for attracting large companies and excellent venture companies. Jeon Hyung-sik (director general of CBFEZ) said: “I hope that the research center will serve as the foundation for the innovative growth of new industries in the region and become an important opportunity for Chungbuk-do to lead the UAM in liaison with the central government’s projects.” |
